Def Jam Rapstar DLC

def jam rapstar dlc 2Def Jam Rapstar DLC Release

Well nothing really surprised me about Def Jam Rapstar DLC so far. I expected to see a number of crappy songs that blew up because of materialism and ignorance. Flo Rida, Gucci Mane, Soulja Boy, and a number of other whack cats are are littered among some of the trash featured on Def Jam Rapstar Downloadable Content. There are some gems sprinkled in among the turds. Warren G, Eric B & Rakim, Luniz, Kanye West, The Pharcyde and a few others raise the bar but don’t impress me.

Def Jam Rapstar DLC

Def Jam Rapstar DLCDef Jam Rapstar DLC

The developers of Def Jam Rapstar pledge heavy support for the upcoming rap game, pricing structure to fall “in-line” with other singing games.

4mm Games’ president Jamie King has told GamerZines that the developer intends to support its upcoming hip-hop rap game Def Jam Rapstar with post-release content “very heavily”, revealing that new DLC and song packs will be available for the game every week. This is good news for hip hop fans who will look forward to seeing some more of their favorite artists on the track lists of future DLC releases. I for one hope they break it up into as many sub-genres as possible making DLC Releases titled Underground Rapstar, Westcoast Rapstar, Eastcoast Rapstar, etc. King did not divulge any DLC titles but hinted at it.

“We’ll have DLC and we do absolutely want to have packs,” said King, “which will be centred around individual artists that have the body of work and ‘Back in the day’ or certain particular themes.”

He went on to say, “We would like to think that it is going to be successful, and we do intend to support it very heavily.” Also King made it clear that they aim to keep the fans in mind every step of the way.

“We have to be careful in terms of the expectations of the community. Whatever we start with, we have to expand upon week by week. I also want everyone to enjoy the 45 tracks on the disc before considering downloading more.”

“There’ll definitely be extra songs available for DLC on day one, and then every week we’ll be rolling more out.”

In a statement released by Def Jam Enterprises:

“…We’ve already cleared hundreds of tracks – so it is never going to be about us not having enough music. It’s about releasing the right music at the right time. If this game blows up it could do really well – and of course there is going to be further iterations on the game. We held back a lot of the stuff, things we couldn’t get perfect in time for the launch. That in itself lends itself to doing a sequel.” – Def Jam Enterprises’ James Waller

Cee Lo Green – “Fuck You”

Cee Lo Green – “Fuck You”

This is quite possibly the tightest song I have heard in a long, long time. Cee Lo Green is one of my favorite alternative hip hop artists of all time and he definitely doesn’t disapoint with his new single. cee lo green fuck you song“Fuck You” or “F**k You” as I am sure it’s called to stay politically correct. I haven’t heard the edited version of “Fuck You” yet but I would imagine that it is not nearly as funny. I’m assuming that they would have to make it “Frick You” or “Screw You”. I don’t think it would have the same effect if it were bleeped or scratched out. I think that Cee Lo’s new song, “F*ck You”, will not only be a hit (already over 1.4 million views on YouTube) but also become a classic that people of all ages, races, social status and lifestyle can relate to. Continuing in his tradition of breaking new ground and setting the standard for an emerging genre.

Cee Lo has a new website that’s off the hook. Check it out at www.ceelogreen.com and find videos and downloads for all of his new music.

If you are looking for all of the lyrics to the song scroll down and check out the “Fuck You” song lyrics.

Cee Lo – “Fuck You” Lyrics

(Chorus)

I see you driving ’round town

With the girl I love and I’m like

“Fuck you!”

Ooo ooo oooo

I guess the change in my pocket

Wasn’t enough I’m like

“Fuck you!

and fuck her too.”

I said

“if I was richer I’d still be with ya”

Ha now ain’t that some shit?

(ain’t that some shit?)

And although there’s pain in my chest

I still wish you the best with a…

“Fuck you!”

Ooo ooo oooo

Yeah I’m sorry I can’t afford a Ferrari

But that don’t mean I can’t get you there.

I guess he’s an X-box and I’m more Atari

But the way you play your game ain’t fair.

I pity the fool

that falls in love with you

(oh shit she’s a gold digger)

Well

(just thought you should know nigga)

Ooh

I’ve got some news for you.

Yeah go run and tell your little boyfriend.

Find More lyrics at www.sweetslyrics.com

(Chorus)

Now I know that I had to borrow

Beg and steal and lie and cheat.

Trying to keep ya trying to please ya.

‘Cause being in love with you ass ain’t cheap.

I pity the fool

that falls in love with you

(oh shit she’s a gold digger)

Well

(just thought you should know nigga)

Ooh

I’ve got some news for you

Ooh I really hate your ass right now.

(Chorus)

Now baby baby baby

why d’you wanna wanna hurt me so bad?

(so bad so bad so bad)

I tried to tell my mama but she told me

“this is one for your dad”

(your dad your dad your dad)

Uh! Why? Uh! Why? Uh!

Why lady?

Oh!

I love you oh!

I still love you.

Oooh!

Predator Rap Video

Predator Rap Video

Brought to you by Funny Or Die

This video is pretty funny. It isn’t the best rap song ever but its got a pretty cool concept. I have seen this Predator Rap Video before but it always gets removed from YouTube. You can see it now on Funny Or Die. The Predator Rap Video is done by some British Emcee. I haven’t done any research to find out. Frankly the rap sucks, the beat sucks but the concept is tight and the gimmick is dead on. I dig old school action flicks and Predator is one of the best. Having some British or Australian dude rap the story in about 6 minutes makes it even better. If you ever want to watch Predator but don’t have any time? Watch this video and get your Predator Rap fix.

Def Jam Rapstar – You Don’t Know Rap

def jam rapstarDef Jam Rapstar is a new video game set to be released Fall of 2010. It is a karaoke style video game which allows the user to spit lyrics on beat, build a reputation and do shows similar to Rock Band. The game looks very promising especially in the official Def Jam Rapstar Trailer. I am excited about it and look forward to the release of Def Jam Rapstar which has been dubbed the “Rock Band of Hip Hop”. On the official website there is a sweet video game called “You Don’t Know Rap” which allows you to test your Hip Hop trivia knowledge. Check out some screen shots below and click the link at the bottom of the page to visit the game itself.

You Don’t Know Rap

The “You Don’t Know Rap” trivia game is pretty tight. I played but didn’t get very far through. You really have to know a lot about all kinds of hip hop trivia including old school artists, albums, rappers real names, song lyrics and oh so much more. I haven’t been able to get past the 700 point mark but if you really know your stuff you can probably own this game. It is not the best Hip Hop Trivia game that I have every played, but its damn good. And it works as a great teaser for the real game set to be released this Fall. “You Don’t Know Rap” is kind of a play on “you don’t know crap” and “so you think you can dance”. The Def Jam Rapstar website looks sick but it can be a little difficult to find the hip hop trivia game if you don’t know where to look.

Artist Marketing Management

artist marketing and advertisingSearch Engine Optimization

Whether you are an independent artist or a marketing representative for a major record label you will need to advertise online. There are many ways to build hype and go viral on the Internet. The number one way people find stuff online is by searching Google. The process of getting your website on the first page of Google in the natural search results is Search Engine Optimization. SEO can be done by yourself, done in house or outsourced to a professional SEO company. But before you can even begin Search Engine Optimization you will need a website.

Band Website Design

There are a few companies out there that will build you a Google friendly Band Website. However most companies will sell you a cheap band website or if you look hard enough you can find a free band website. But, you get what you pay for and I would recommend purchasing a high quality website for your band or artist. One important thing to remember is that the internet works for all genres of music. From Shock Rock to Hip-Hop, R&B to Reggae all types of music are open game on the internet. If possible see if you can get a blog on your musician website and make sure you get good band website hosting. Don’t skimp on the hosting, it is one of the most important factors in SEO. If you get crappy shared website hosting it will load slow, go down periodically, and can be associated with bad websites that might also be hosted on the shared server. Ask your band website design company if they offer dedicated hosting as it is much faster and more secure. Once you have a good quality artist website you will want to market it on Google, Twitter, Social Networks and most importantly Facebook.

artist marketing managementFacebook Advertising

Facebook has quickly became the most popular website on the Internet. With its unique advertising tools you can serve banner ads to people who are already fans of similar music. Facebook Advertising for Bands is quickly becoming a big business and there are professional advertising agencies out there that will generate your ads (some companies will do this for free), run alternating ads, make custom FBML pages and much more. Some of these companies will even manage the wall postings on your Facebook profile but this can be expensive and is usually reserved for bigger budget clients. Advertising on Facebook can also generate a large amount of fans on Facebook which can in tern increase album sales, mp3 downloads and overall brand recognition.

facebook advertising companyGlobal Market Exposure has done a lot for Bad Habitat and Surreal Music. As our official advertising and marketing company we get SEO Services, Facebook Advertising and Web Design and Development from them. If you really want to blow up online they are the people to go to. They can build you a really sick band website or if you are on a budget they have some band website templates which are pretty killer and still have all the Google compliant code and blog features. Check them out and tell them Bad Habitat referred you and receive a 10% Discount.

In addition to the company featured above, other Internet Marketing Firms offer similar services at comparable rates. One specific Online Advertising Agency is Total Market Exposure. They offer Social Media Marketing and Branding Services that utilize website design, Facebook marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Branding and other Online Advertising tactics that make sure that your brand is in front of prospective fans effectively.

Okwerdz and Illmaculate

okwerdz portland oregonThe Home Grown Tour featuring Okwerdz and Grayspace popped off last night in Oregon City, OR. It was a dope show with more than a few surprises. First and foremost was the unexpected appearance of battle rap super star Illmaculate. He jumped up on stage for a large part of Okwerdz set and did some dope freestyles over the live band performance of Greyspace. We’ll cover that more later but first, the second big surprise.

T-Webb and Winkz

T-Webb and Winkz are two young up and coming Hip-Hop/R&B artists straight outta Estacada, OR. T-Webb and Winkz had a dope performance and brought out a huge crowd. I would have liked to see more of their fans sticking around and filling up the dance floor, but it is what it is. Props to T-Webb and Winkz, look to see them smashing it on a lot more shows in the future.

Greyspace

What is better than a dope live band with an ill emcee and a phenomenal guitar player who happens to also be a doctor? Not a whole lot in this cruel world, but Greyspace has that and more. Their performance was awesome, switching up their style on more than a few tracks to accommodate every musical preference in the building. Their Myspace categorization of Hip-Hop/Funk/Indie is a good indicator of their style and sound. Mad props to Greyspace, they killed it last night.

Okwerdz and Illmaculate

Okwerdz opened up his set with a song featuring Greyspace and then did a couple tracks with DJ Cuttah as accompaniment. All of those early tracks were sick but couldn’t really compare to what came next. Unannounced to anyone, Illmaculate was set to perform with Okwerdz. So Ok called him up mid set and spit some verses with Ill. They got the Greyspace band behind them and busted some sick 4 bar freestyles. It was a stellar performance. Props to Okwerdz for coming out and killing it less than 24 hours after doing a show in Reno, Nevada. Good luck to the rest of the Home Grown Tour, keep it crackin’. Big ups to Portland rap battle legend Illmaculate for coming out and showing the real heads some love.

More Shout Outs

Props to ourselves for killing it. Dru, Flawless, Damian Grey and DJ Cuttah (Bad Habitat) rocked the show with one of the dopest performances of the night. Props to Sawb 1 for collaborating with us on the planning and coordinating of the event. Big ups to all the fans and real hip hop heads that came out to Oregon City on a Saturday Night.
