The Sound Quality is horrible but that was a tight show for sure. PDX POP is an alright Portland Music Festival but its not as good as POH Hop when it comes to hip hop. PDX Hip Hop is all about good underground rap and alternative hip hop with a little bit of West Coast swagger thrown in. PDX POP is mostly all about pop music. Which in my book is pretty lame.
Portland Break Dancers busting out in the streets of Portland, Oregon. PDX Hip Hop break dancers are some of the best on the west coast. The saturation of b-boys and b-girls at PSU is the main reason for it. There are a lot of people that either go to PSU or at least attend their break dancing events and they make up most of the local break dance scene.
I don’t necessarily agree with all the songs on this video. But someone apparently does. They got a lot of views on Youtube, so without further ado… for the fans.

Another great track from the hit Seattle producer, Jake One aka “Jake Uno”.
Director/DP/Editor: Zia Mohajerjasbi
Produced By: Justin Pinder, Zia Mohajerjasbi, Sam Toloui, Steve Failows
From Jake One:
“Finally, I’m happy to present the video to my tribute to Seattle, “Home”. The song features MC’s Vitamin D, Note, Maneak B and Ish, who have all been big influences in my music. Sir Mix a Lot brought out his orange Lambo and Nate Burleson repped the town and the Seahawks as well. Super Director Zia did a phemomenal job creating the perfect visual for the music and now its time for the world to see it.”

Cool Nutz POH Hop Mission Statement
The Portland Oregon Hip-Hop Festival (POH-Hop) has been a monumental and historic event from the time of it’s creation in 1995. David Parks, Steven Spyryt, and Terrance Scott had a vision to create an event that gave local hip-hop artists an outlet to expose their art to the masses.
With the support of the community and some of the cities music industry luminaries, POH-Hop exploded on the scene, and was successful even beyond the expectations of its creators and supporters. Over the past 11 years, POH-Hop has featured some of the most talented local artists, as well as national stars like The Luniz, Spearhead, Mistah FAB, One Be Lo, Mac Dre, Ras Kass, Andre Nickatina, and more.
Not only has POH-Hop benefited local artists in the form of exposure, POH-Hop has also raised and donated funds to The Black Education Center and KBOO Community Radio.
Past sponsors have included: KXJM Jammin 107.5, Vtech Phones, Adidas, 1480 KBMS Radio, Freq Mastering, Phoenix Media, Liquid Assets Jewelers, Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes, Upheaval Designs, SuperHappyWax.com, In Da Mix Records, SPUN Academy, KBOO Radio, Willamette Week, The Portland Mercury, and The Oregonian

Portland Hip Hop artist Virtu “Shoe In” Album Release concert featuring performances by Bad Habitat, Dirty Birdy, Tru Game, Northorn Lights, Maddhadda, and Starchile. The show was crazy ill with a rare performance from Maddhadda and guest appearance from Dirty Birdy. Everyone’s performances were dope fuck. Mt Tabor Theater is a real tight place to have hip hop shows in Portland. The sound system was great and the layout of the space makes for a really good sound. The “green hall” wasn’t much of a green room but the backstage layout did have some plus sides.
Dirty Birdy is a West Coast Rapper from San Bernardino California. Dirty Birdy is a Certified Wake Up Show Veteran and an Underground Hip Hop Legend. Hailing from the most hated part of the west coast…The Inland Empire.
Dirt been sick with the flow since way back. And prefers to spit vintage bullshit over creamy drums….Dirty Birdy has been featured on everything from The Digital Underground album “Future Rhythm”…to The Sway and King Tech “Back To Basics” album. Not to mention his own “Tweet Tweet” album to name a few. And a shitload of mixtapes. The “Professional Shit-talker” as he refers to himself as….is 16 bars away from becoming a household name.
I hope we hear more from Dirty Birdy in the near future. Stay posted, we will let you know the next time this cat is coming to Portland, Oregon.

The Decline of Live Hip-Hop on Benz and a Backpack
by Dizzy posted in THINK PIECES
“Two summers ago I was lucky enough to catch the Paid Dues Tour at New York City’s Nokia Theatre in Times Square. I was particularly excited for it because the lineup included a bunch of artists I’d never seen in concert before: Kidz in the Hall, dudes from Boot Camp Clik, Blackalicious, GZA, all culminating in what I hoped would be a satisfying set from the godfather of hip-hop, Rakim.
I remember the show with particular clarity because my boys and I endured an hour-and-a-half-long train ride that should’ve only lasted twenty-five minutes. The stifling June heat had us sweating our shirts out while we were held in station after station by train dispatchers. People in our car were fanning themselves with whatever they had: Yankees and Mets fitteds, celebrity gossip magazines, folded-up copies of the Daily News (with a picture of a smiling Barack Obama- who’d just secured the Democratic Presidential nomination- under a headline that read: ‘HISTORY!’).” … Read More Read the rest of this entry »

Formally they were known as 10 Cent Depozit along with original members Slyder and Fritz (lives on the westcoast)…..still repping 10 Cent/Resa.P and Lake AFX James and Skin now carry the name MTA. MTA stands for many different things … MEGA Triflin Army, MEGA-Ton-AGE, Money and Times Alternative, Marching Through Armageddin, Masacre of Time and Art, Mental Telepathic Artisens, Medication Through Art …(Just to name a few). MTA is currently working on recording a new album “Masacre of Time and Art” that will be mostly produced by themselves and partner KevONE. They are also releasing a Mix CD that will include some exclusive tracks and REmastered REreleases.
James Gwoove was part of Traverse City original hip hop trio in the mid 90’s the Funky Ante’s, with Slyder and RocSteady, they were performing at the Loading Dock when it was still known as JRR’s wearhouse back in 93/94. Joining forces with Lake AFX in 1998 to to make two albums. A couple years later branching off to become 10 Cent Depozit with Kuzn Fritz and Slyder. MTA has tapped into various nation wide markets, while keeping their home base Traverse City, Michigan. MTA has been carving out their unique style over the past 15 years. James has been rapping since the young age of 6 and Skin since around 14, they also have both been producing there own beats for the past 5 or so years better helping to create there own brand to this giant hip hop scene. Many of you know that the Air Jordan VI Motorsports are releasing tomorrow but if you don’t feel like waking up tomorrow and going out in the cold you can purchase them online. Below there is a link to where you can purchase them now while they are still available. Don’t sleep because they will be gone soon.
Gourmet has come a long way over the years, after starting off receiving much criticism for models that highly resembled Jordan sneakers the brand did some overhauling. These says the Jordan like silhouettes are toned way down and they have some new original models that are getting great feedback. This latest Spring collection from them is definitely a nice collection with some great use of materials. I think my favorite is the Dicinove which is featured directly below.

Let’s make this short and sweet. The cultural ideology behind Hip Hop is schizophrenic. At least once a week, the Hip Hop nationalists talk out of both sides of their necks. When it comes to sending the “right” message, the word “right” is entirely relative and shifty.
Filed under events that confirm we are even closer to return of the Messiah, a white man actually had to don white make-up to impersonate a black man.
Perhaps you recall the events of last month, when our resident hellion, white-boy rapper, Eminem stirred up trouble by using his new video, “Just Lose It” to mock Michael Jackson and his child molestation allegations. In the video, Eminem dresses up like Jackson and in one scene has little boys jumping around in the background to the lyrics, “Come here little kiddie, on my lap / Guess who’s back with a brand new rap? / And I don’t mean rap, as in a case of child molestation.” When word of this spread, the pedophiliac-accepting masses were incensed at Eminem’s lack of reverence for the hallowed St. Michael.
Jackson himself was no happy camper either. The video in question brought to light a topic that Jackson has been more than candid about: his propensity to “play” with boys. Claiming that Eminem “crossed the line,” Michael’s umbrage led to a protest, asking cable music stations to pull the video off the air. And by golly, it mostly worked.
VH1 and MTV didn’t comply, but in a clear case of pot and kettle banter, Black Entertainment Television’s founder and president Robert Johnson announced that BET would be yanking the video because he felt it was “inappropriate.” In a stroke of irony, it seems the founder of BET (which is by the way a grand purveyor of ubiquitous amounts of hedonism on a 24-hour-basis) had a run-in with morality.
At this point, it is assumed that the word “inappropriate” could only be defined in the most Bill Clintonesque manner possible. Which is only to say that the definition in question is more vague than Kevin Spacey’s sexuality. Then again, at least Spacey attempts to pick a side.
Let us remember that BET is the same channel that daily takes booty-gyration and grinding to new lows with their late-night show “Un-cut,” which airs uncensored clips of music videos along with a couple doses of impropriety, sexual behavior and scantily clad women. While these things don’t fit under the banner of “inappropriateness,” apparently Eminem’s video does.
Others in the hip hop community have also taken issue with Eminem’s assault on St. Michael. In a press release, Ray “Benzino” Scott, a founder of “The Source Magazine” and perpetual thorn in Eminem’s side, wrote the following concerning the video, “For too long influential people in the hip-hop community have stood by Eminem while he has made a mockery of the culture that inspires and motivates our young people to achieve and be proud of their black heritage … ”
It is quite possible that Benzino was on crack when he wrote that as anyone who’s flipped through “The Source” magazine lately would be hard-pressed to find much of anything about which the black community should feel pride or self-worth.
This is among many accusations Benzino has made in his magazine against Eminem. A year ago he accused the rapper of using the N-word and disparaging black women in his lyrics captured on some old tapes. While it is highly likely that the accusation is true, to paraphrase a favored Biblical passage, “Hello Speck, meet the Plank in eye.”
The validity of the claims from blacks in the Hip Hop community against Eminem are severely hindered by a culture that regularly plasters hootchified black women across magazines and on television, “droppin’ it like it’s hot,” wearing dental floss, and acting like slaves on the auction block while men call them everything but their given names. As evidence would have it, Eminem’s accusers don’t have a case.
To date, it doesn’t appear that the revelation of hip hop’s moral bi-polar disorder has yet descended upon the critical mass of the culture. The events that must transpire to bring people from the current state of delusion to the land of enlightenment and rationality will have to be drastic. Not even a thong boycott could save this wreck.
BET’s leadership is disgraceful. Would we ever see Robert Johnson’s teenage daughter Paige wearing what the video hos wear and shaking her posterior while a man calls her out of her name? It is highly doubtful, yet Johnson thinks this behavior to be an appropriate representation of the rest of the black community.
Before embracing the role of the “Moral Police,” the collective minds behind hip hop need to decide what it is they want to portray. For crying out loud, choose a flippin’ motivation; pick a side and stay there; and more importantly get a clue.
