Eminem Nominated For Emmys

eminem nominated for 10 emmysGrammy Awards 2011: Eminem nominated for 10 awards

Eminem is on course to dominate next year’s Grammy Awards after picking up 10 nominations last night in Los Angeles.

The beleaguered record industry couldn’t have been happier about the return to the spotlight in 2010 of rapper Eminem, the biggest-selling artist of the new millennium, and heaped upon him a field-leading 10 Grammy Award nominations for his “Recovery” album, including nods in all three top categories of album, record and song of the year.

Eminem Emmy Nomination

Buoyed by great anticipation, Eminem sold a staggering 608,000 copies of “Relapse” in its first week of release. This album — the rapper’s first in nearly five years – is the fifth in a row from Eminem to make it to No. 1. Such staggering sales were signaled by the earlier success of the first single — “Crack a Bottle.” It shifted more than 418,000 online copies in its first week on sale in February, breaking the download record.

While his last album — “Encore” — sold over 5 million copies in the U.S. it did not win over Grammy voters. Eminem lost all four of his Grammy bids for that disc. Since then, the singer-songwriter has overcome his battle with personal demons.

He returns with the ironically titled “Relapse,” which earned rave reviews for its candid self-reflection. This could be the album that finally wins Eminem one of the top prizes at the Grammy Awards.

Over the years, Eminem has won nine Grammys but lost both of his bids for album and record of the year. As a songwriter, he has only contended for song of the year once. And he did not land a best new artist nod when he burst onto the music scene in 2000.
The 38-year-old rapper has been shortlisted for all of the major awards, including Album Of The Year for ‘Recovery’, which has already sold more than four million copies worldwide.

The awards were a triumph of personal redemption for Eminem, and came almost 10 years after he was first nominated for album of the year for The Marshall Mathers LP. Since then, Eminem has become one of the top-selling artists in the world, but also struggled through prescription drug addiction that led to gaps between albums and material that has failed to impress critics. With Recovery, his status as the best rapper – and pop’s top artist – was arguably restored.

Eminem’s collaboration with Rihanna, on the single ‘Love The Way You Lie’, was also nominated for Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year.

Eminem’s New Album 2010

Eminem New Album 2010A lot of rumors have been circulating about a leaked version of Eminem’s New Album. The official release date is June 21, 2010 but a mixtape version of Eminem’s New Album, Recovery has been leaked on the internet from a Detroit area DeeJay, DJ Young Mase. To the left you can see the cover of the leaked mixtape. Check out the official track list for Eminem’s new album, Recovery for the real track list from Eminem’s New Ablum to be released June 21, 2010.

Eminem’s New Album 2010

The New Album, Recovery is rumored to be one of his best yet. It is different than some of his other albums in one major way. For the full Recovery Album Review check it out in one of our previous posts. Anyway, back to the album. It is way different because on Eminem’s New Album he isn’t as angry as in most of his other albums. He is more positive and vulnerable in his lyrics and his temperament. This can be seen in his recently released single Not Afraid. Some people have spoken negatively about the song saying that Eminem’s new song Not Afraid seems fake.

Eminem’s New Album Recovery

Eminem New Album 2010The New Album, Recovery (2010) album cover features Eminem walking away from the camera on a lonely street. If you want to read into it you can infer all the usual stuff about Eminem like he is sad and all that. The new album was supposedly recorded with Eminem completely sober, reminiscing about Recovery from addiction.

His last album Relapse was recorded during his recovery apparently while he was reminiscing about drug use. check out the real cover to the right. Another cover is out there which will be an alternate cover. Also check out the album on Amazon. You can pre-order it for real cheap. I will be adding it to my collection as soon as the delivery truck pulls up and drops off Eminem’s New Album. 2010 is going to be a good year for hip hop fans.

Eminem – Recovery

The Official Release of Recovery can be found on Eminem’s Website or if your looking to buy the hot new album check it out on Amazon. Now for the 411. Eminem’s newest album is set to release on June 22nd 2010. You can however pre-order it off of Amazon and there is a leaked version out there for Download. The new album, Recovery, was originally supposed to be the sequel to Relapse 2 but because of all the new songs that Eminem has been recording, he felt that Relapse 2 didn’t fit the theme and came up with Recovery. It is a statement to the fact that Em is now off drugs. Relapse was completed while Em was kicking his bad habits and rapping about relapsing, Recovery was completed sober while rapping about recovery. The Eminem Recovery Album leaked just after the first freestyle he released, called Eminem – Despicable (Freestyle).

One of the firsts to leak was a song titled “Eminem – Not Afraid produced by Jim Jonsin” which is by far one of the best songs on the recovery album and will become an instant classic.

Relapse sold over 600,000 and some industry specialists are speculating that Eminem’s Recovery Album will sell over a million first week, despite the leak. He would be the first person to go diamond in a week since Lil Wayne did it on The Carter III.

Do the world a favor and don’t go looking for the Eminem Recovery Download. Show the dude some love and buy it. Its only $10.99 at Amazon pre-order. If you do gotta do it follow the link above and get it from iHipHop.com. I can’t say for sure if its the same album though, I have not downloaded it or heard all of the songs off of it. According to the back cover the leaked album has a different track list as the official track list on Eminem’s Website.

Eminem's New Album "Recovery"

Eminem – Recovery

Em’s new album is fire yo. From start to finish the new Eminem album is from his heart and soul. It is hands down one of his best albums ever and one of his most unique albums. He has made a name for himself as an angst ridden broken heart and while the new album does have its fair share of dramatic visuals it is a redemption album for Em. It is the first CD he has completed sober since The Eminem Show.

Show dude some love and pick up a copy of his new album from Amazon. It’s only $10.99 which is a steel for how many great new songs are on it.

I don’t know about y’all but I prefer to have the CD rather than just the MP3’s. Great thing about Eminem’s new album “Recovery” from Amazon is that its only $10.99. New CD’s are way cheaper on Amazon than in stores.

Back to the album though, Eminem changed it up a bit with this one. While he really earned his reputation as a angry dude on his previous projects this one is more about his recovery from drug addiction and carries a much more positive message than any of his other albums. I was really impressed when I heard it for the first time and since then every time I listen to the tracks I find something new to like about it.

Hip-Hop Snubbed at Grammys

Did Hip-Hop Get Snubbed At The Grammys?

People in the hip-hop nation are wondering if the Grammy Awards are snubbing hip-hop.

At Sunday night’s show, the only hip-hop award that was broadcast during the show was Best Rap/Sung Collaboration, which Jay-Z, Kanye West and Rihanna won. The only hip-hop act to perform was the finale of Lil Wayne, Drake and Eminem performing “Drop the World” and “Forever” — and even with that coveted spot, the performance was mired in controversy due to network’s overzealous muting of the song’s lyrics. There was no moment in the spotlight for Eminem’s two wins; no show-stopping performances like last year’s “Swagga Like Us” tag-team of Jay-Z, T.I., Lil Wayne and Kanye West with M.I.A., which killed it collectively and individually… Read More…

Eminem Connects with DJ Khalil for ‘Relapse 2′

Eminem Connects with DJ Khalil for ‘Relapse 2′

eminem-relapse

Off the heels of his Grammy performance of “Forever” with Eminem, Lil Wayne, Drake and Travis Barker, XXLMag had the chance to chop it up with The Alchemist about Em’s highly anticipated new disc, Relapse 2.

While the disc does not have a release date as of press time, ALC says Em is hard at work in the studio with DJ Khalil. The West Coast beatsmith has had a big year, producing standout joints for Drake (“Fear”), Clipse (“Kinda Like a Big Deal”) and Slaughterhouse (“Cuckoo”).

Khalil—who I think is like the best producer right now to me—he had been sending records to Em for a while that wasn’t like, they weren’t like clicking in,” Alchemist told XXL. “Em knew he was dope but they haven’t found the right one. And I think they found a couple joints now… the joints they have are crazy. I can’t say 100 percent [that he made the album], but I have heard at least two joints Khalil did and they’re fuckin’ stupid.”

Al, who serves as the Detroit lyricist’s tour DJ, revealed that he has yet to score a beat on Em’s project. “I’m starting to be around Em and the camp more,” he said, “especially finishing these albums. Factor in Em’s sober Your browser does not support inline frames or is currently configured not to display inline frames. now, it’s like that’s my man, we chop it up a lot more now…it’s like little by little I’m figuring out what I have to do to create a sound that would be Alchemist/Eminem. I didn’t get it yet.”

One person that Em has been working a lot with is Just Blaze. Al gave XXL insight into their chemistry: “He clicked with Em,” he said. “It was really amazing, too. They really vibed and made some music, beyond like Just just sending him beats, it was nothing like that…I think it’s a perfect meshing of the two…If you could imagine what they could bring to the table at this point, it’s pretty close and maybe a little more.”

In fact, in ALC’s opinion, the whole album is a level above the first Relapse. “He’s doing things lyrically on this album that he hasn’t done before,” he shared. “The punchline game is really back.”

Eminem has responded to rumors sparked by a tabloid report that stated he had reunited and fathered a new child with his ex-wife, Kim Mathers.

Star Magazine claimed that Eminem and Kim Mathers had reunited for a third time and were expecting a child.

“Contrary to false rumors spread by unreliable tabloids, Marshall and Kim Mathers are not romantically reunited in any way, nor are they expecting a child together,” a representative for Eminem said in a statement. “They are a divorced couple who share custody of their daughter and maintain a friendly relationship.”

Eminem, born Marshall Mathers, originally married Kim in 1999.

The couple divorced in 2001, during the success of the rapper’s Marshall Mathers LP, which contained the scathing diss track “Kim,” which accused her of being unfaithful.

“I would rather have a baby through my penis than get married again,” Eminem told Rolling Stone in 2002.

In January of 2006, the couple remarried in a lavish ceremony, only to be divorced for a second time, just three months later.

Fabulous Saturdays – YouTube – Doc Vaporz – Get Live

Aesop Rock music and lyrics redefined hip for many a listener, including myself.  When his classic album Float dropped, hip hop fans were exposed to a whole new style of lyrics never seen in the genre before. The single Daylight- perhaps Aesop’s best known song to date- on Labor Days brought him to the forefront of underground rap.

Born Ian Matthias Bavitz in Long Island, Aesop Rock grew up in New York and studied painting at Boston College. While working as a waiter he released his first two albums: Music For Earthworms (1997) and the Appleseed EP (1999).The albums caught the eyes of many in the music community and Float held their interest for years to come. Production was a compilation between Aesop Rock and his friend Blockhead, though the latter’s influence is much more recognizable on Float.

The next album was Labor Days and is considered by many to be Aesop’s best album, both lyrically and musically. It wasn’t until Bazooka Tooth that Aesop Rock music – not just lyrics- began to take form. Unfortunately, most of his fans found his music too heavily featured, making it difficult to discern his already complex rhymes. Still, tracks like “No Jumper Cables” caught on, and were released as a single.

Times changed, and the evolution of his music changed with it. In his early albums, there was a much heavier influence on jazz (as a result of working with Blockhead); Labor Days seemed to be more rock-infused than earlier albums, while Bazooka Tooth ushered in a whole new musical style for the Long Island rapper. The sounds were much more urban based with electronica overtones.

While those elements still remained important, in his album Fast Cars, Danger, Fire and Knives Aesop took a back seat role in production, while still remaining at the forefront lyrically, both on the album and underground hip hop in general.

Aesop Rock music has always been important to hip hop, though he struggles to earn accolades for his production work- sort of a Kanye West in reverse. However, Ace did land a production commission for Nike, where he produced a 45 minute track for joggers. The music was conceptual and featured several landscapes for the listener to follow (reminiscent of Forest Crunk on the Daylight EP).

Aesop Rock music is unique in hip hop and should be given special attention by aficionados, both for the musical and lyrical concepts.

The 6 Rules Of Commercial Music Success
by: Gian Fiero

Over the years I have had many conversations with music artists about commercial music, which usually leads to them disclosing their disdain and hatred of it. Some refer to Pop music (Pop, as in what’s popular now) as commercial music.

Others think of anything that is receiving heavy rotation on radio as commercial music. Whatever their definition, one thing is often overlooked: commercial music is the heart of the music industry which pumps the blood that keeps it alive.

So why then are so many music artists resistant to making commercial music? The answer that I’m often given is because they don’t want to “sell-out” their creative integrity by conforming to some industry version of what’s popular (i.e. what’s selling at the moment). It becomes very obvious to me that the problem is not commercial music, but rather the perception and definition of it.

The misconception is that the music industry created this superficial definition of commercial music to strip away the artistry and true identity of artists for the purpose of making money; forcing artist to create songs that the “masses” will enjoy. That fallacy is often perpetuated by music artists who are usually incapable (not unwilling) of creating commercially viable songs.

The truth is the public, not the industry, dictates what is commercial, and for decades they have gravitated towards, embraced, and purchased songs that adhere to a commercial music format.

If commercial music is the rule for success and sales in the music industry, there are inevitably going to be some exceptions to it, but unfortunately, the tendency is for music artists to try and become the exception, instead of observing the rules and why they exist.

Simply put: the rules of commercial music success have not, and will not change. Not in your life time or your children’s lifetime. They exist because it’s human nature to reject the unfamiliar; in the music industry, similarity is the cornerstone of acceptance. This is why so many popular songs sound similar and contain familiar elements.

It’s a rule that is prevalent in every genre, and on every continent. There are those artists who do a masterful job of observing their own artistic values while delicately balancing the demands for commercial music by industry professionals. Artists such as Prince, Sting and Bjork, have pushed the envelope of creativity for years. But artists of their caliber who possess such sublime talent and vision are rare.

For the sake of clarification and argument, I will offer my explanation and industry definition of what commercial music is; based on 25 years of listening to recordings as a music lover, music industry professional, and music critic in what I will call, “The 6 Rules of Commercial Music Success.” They are songs that have the following:

1.) A STRONG HOOK/MEMORABLE CHORUS. If no one knows what your song is called, they can’t request it when they hear it on the radio. More importantly, they can’t buy it at retail…or track it down on the Internet to illegally download a copy of it.

2.) GOOD MELODY. Commercial music is characterized by good melodies (i.e. verses, choruses, and sometimes bridges that get stuck in your head and make you want to sing-along). What can the top selling hip-hop acts of the last 10 years (Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Eminem, and 50 Cent) attribute their success to? Good melodies (not cool beats) that increase the commercial value of their music.

3.) WELL-PRODUCED. Coming from an R&B background where producers are a pivotal part of commercial music success, I did not realizeuntil I became a consultant that many rock bands don’t utilize, nor value producers like R&B music acts. Perhaps they should since the record company often assigns top-notch producers to enhance the quality of songs (through their musical expertise) and enrich the records (through their experience and proficiency in the recording process), ultimately making them more enjoyable to listen to and, you guessed it…more commercial!

4.) APPEALING LYRICS. The lyrics don’t have to be profound; people just have to be able to emotionally connect with and mentally relate to them. If you have a way of saying common things in an uncommon way, your lyrics will have an edge over the songwriter whose song is about the same topic. Write about what’s closest to your heart for credibility and sincerity, and others will be able to relate to your songs – especially if it’s on a subject matter that they know or have experienced.

5.) KEEP IT SHORT. Keep the length of your songs down to a maximum of four minutes. Jazz and World Music are exceptions. A song that is well-written makes people want to hear it again, and again, and again. The longer the song is, the less likely that will happen. Don’t believe me? Check the length of your favorite songs.

6.) TALENT/WELL-PERFORMED. Most outstanding vocalists are often surprised by how low this rule is on the list. The fact is that there are more mediocre songs performed by outstanding vocalists, than there are mediocre vocalists performing outstanding songs. A good song that is well-performed gives it an edge, but if the song is lacking, all of the yelling and vocal acrobatics that singers tend to use to compensate for it will not make it a better song…though it may help the singer to attract better songwriters to work with. If you lack talent and it’s a really good song, someone more talented can (and will) sing the song and make it better.

Now that you know the 6 rules of commercial music success, hopefully you will be able to use this information to your advantage and create songs that will increase your chances of success in your professional music endeavors…or you can ignore them and continue to wonder why no one (other than your friends and family – all of which listen to commercial music) like your songs.
