SNL Digital Short – Jack Sparrow (feat. Michael Bolton)
Over 3,985,928 views and counting on Youtube. This is another big hit viral video and song from Lonely Island. This was totally not what I expected and I guess that’s what made it funny. MB was not available for comment but he didn’t release a statement saying, “I don’t know why fools be hatin’ my Jack Sparrow song. Fools always be hatin’ son.” Mr Bolton is highly regarded in the hip-hop community as a founder of the big mack super pimp daddy style flow which came to be the prominent style of the 90’s. His cameo in this video and this song should be regarded as a come back akin to The Beatles Resurrection Tour or The Jimi Hendrix Heaven Experience.
One person said “Micheal Bolton is the new Chuck Norris”.
I think that’s a bit of a stretch but he has gained a great deal of pop culture popularity because of this video. I think whats more startling about this video is that Robert Downy Jr plays a woman who looks like a hooker in the back of a limo. Wait, have we seen him in that same role before?

Beastie Boys – Make Some Noise
Beastie Boys – Make Some Noise
This is a great marketing scheme from the Beastie Boys. They have some of the most popular celebrities cameo in a short/music videos and tap the viral market. By releasing videos one after the other builds anticipation for the finale and ultimately the new album by the Beastie Boys. Either way this video is very funny, I believe Robert Downy Jr plays a woman. Watch the video for yourself and see some of the most hilarious antics including Will Ferrel tapping a cow bell. Can there be too much cow bell? We here at Bad Habitat Music think not.
Elijah Wood, Danny Mcbride, Seth Rogan, Some dude from the office, Robert Downy Jr, Ted Danson, Steve Buscemi, Will Ferrell, Jack Black, and Jon Oreilly! Thats awesome. Too many cameos to count.
Adam Yauch’s Complete FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT REVISITED Short Film. The BeastieBoys film Stars Elijah Wood, Ted Danson, Robert Downey Jr, Jack Black, Will Ferrell, Will Arnett, Seth Rogen and John C Reilly.
Seth Rogan looks bad ass blinged out in gold necklaces and a Fila shirt. The video has more than a few funny impersonations of hip-hop culture by the actors. When they try break dancing it is quite evident that they are not true hip-hop (What? Elijah Wood aint hip-hop?). What do you think? Post your comment below, thanks.
Warren G – Regulate ft. Nate Dogg
Warren G – Regulate
ft. Nate Dogg
One of the greatest hip hop songs of all time. RIP Nate Dogg.
Warren G – Regulate Lyrics
“Regulate”
(feat. Nate Dogg)
[G:]
Regulators
we regulate any stealing of his property
and we damn good too
But you can’t be any geek off the street,
gotta be handy with the steel if you know what I mean, earn your keep!
REGULATORS!!! MOUNT UP!
[G:]
It was a clear black night, a clear white moon
Warren G was on the streets, trying to consume
some skirts for the eve, so I can get some funk
just rollin in my ride, chillin all alone
[Nate:]
Just hit the Eastside of the LBC
on a mission trying to find Mr. Warren G.
Seen a car full of girls ain’t no need to tweak
all you skirts know what’s up with 213
[G:]
So I hooks a left on the 21 and Lewis
some brothas shootin dice so I said “Let’s do this”
I jumped out the ride, and said “What’s up?”
some brothas pulled some gats so I said “I’m stuck.”
[Nate:]
Since these girls peepin me I’ma glide and swerve
these hookers lookin so hard they straight hit the curb
Won’tcha think of better things than some horny tricks
I see my homey and some suckers all in his mix
[G:]
I’m gettin jacked, I’m breakin myself
I can’t believe they taking Warren’s wealth
they took my rings, they took my rolex
I looked at the brotha said “Damn, what’s next?”
[Nate:]
They got my homey hemmed up and they all around
ain’t none of them seeing if they going straight pound for pound
I gotta come up real quick before they start to clown
I best pull out my strap and lay them busters down
[G:]
They got guns to my head
I think I’m going down
I can’t believe this happenin in my own town
If I had wings I could fly
let me contemplate
I glanced in the cut and I see my homey Nate
[Nate:]
Sixteen in the clip and one in the hole
Nate Dogg is about to make some bodies turn cold
now they droppin and yellin
it’s a tad bit late
Nate Dogg and Warren G had to regulate
I laid all them busters down
I let my gat explode
now I’m switching my mind back into freak mode
if you want skirts sit back and observe
I just left a gang of those over there on the curb
[G:]
Now Nate got the freaks
and that’s a known fact
before I got jacked I was on the same track
back up back up cause it’s on
N A T E and me
the Warren to the G
[Nate:]
Just like I thought
they were in the same spot
in need of some desperate help
the Nate Dogg and the G-child
were in need of something else
one of them dames was sexy as hell
I said “ooo I like your size.”
she said “my car’s broke down and you seem real nice,
would ya let me ride?”
I got a car full of girls and it’s going real swell
the next stop is the Eastside Motel
[G:]
I’m tweaking
into a whole new era
G-Funk
step to this
I dare ya
Funk
on a whole new level
[Nate:]
the rhythm is the bass and the bass is the treble
[G:]
Chords
Strings
We brings
Melody
G-Funk
where rhythm is life
and life is rhythm
[Nate:]
If you know like I know
you don’t wanna step to this
It’s the G-Funk era
funked out with a gangsta twist
if you smoke like I smoke
then you high like everyday
and if your ass is a buster
213 will regulate

Music of NBA 2K11
Presenting Michael Jordan as this year’s cover athlete was a poor decision on the part of the Developers. I feel that a current all star is more suitable than someone who doesn’t play any more. Whats next? Larry Bird on the cover? There are however several new game play modes and updates. The graphics have greatly improved. An example of the new graphics updates is shown to the right. NBA 2K11 builds on its reputation of combining young up-and-coming musicians with well-established artists into the soundtrack for the game. The music for this game will work perfect for Basketball Mixes while your playing hoops. The NBA 2K11 Soundtrack is off the hook. You will definitely get down to the tunes on the track list above.
Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports stated that “NBA 2K is the basketball game that everyone plays, from NBA athletes to celebrities to music artists. Snoop has been a long time fan of the NBA 2K series and because music is such an integral part to the gameplay experience, it was a perfect fit for this year’s title – one of the greatest rappers making an exclusive track for the greatest NBA game,”. He went on to say “With NBA 2K11 we hope to exceed expectations by featuring both an impressive array of established artists like Big Boi, Kid Cudi and Drake who definitely balance the hoop action, alongside emerging talent, such as the winners of our national MC/producer contest.”
2K Sports is a division of 2K, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc.
Check out this alternate cover for NBA 2K11 featuring the Portland Trailblazers Brandon Roy as the featured athlete on the cover. B-Roy has had a tough year this 2010-11 season. Hopefully next year he will be healthier and prove that he is an all star in the league. Thanks for visiting our post about the NBA 2K11 Soundtrack. We will be posting more about the NBA 2K11 Soundtrack and all other music from their games in the future.
Brother Ali – Room With a View
Underground rap vs mainstream rap? What do you listen to and what’s better in your opinion?
I listen to mainstream rap every time a new song comes out, but that’s only to keep updated on whats going on in the music industry – not cos I actually like the music. For me underground rap is where the real art and talent is. Rappers like Lowkey, Immortal Technique, Jedi Mind Tricks, Tech N9ne etc always kept it real and rap about real issues like political injustice. All the best rappers were originally underground no matter how famous they were like greats like Tupac, Biggie, Nas, Lupe Fiasco etc. Half of the mainstream artists in the industry are in the illuminati and are sellouts and sold their souls in my opinion. Independent Hip-Hop Artist Promotions Guide
Indie Band Website Design
This is focused on indie hip-hop artists but applies to any genre of music. All independent musicians should read this.
Band Website
Your bands website has to be good for you to be taken seriously. Not having a band website will immediately make you look less professional. The website needs to have an easily accessible music player, promo pictures and upcoming concert information. Many companies offer Band Website Design but not all provide the same quality.
Store
You have to be able to buy something on the site. CD’s, MP3’s, Free Downloads, T-Shirts, Stickers, etc. More about merchandise later.
Social Media Integration
Connecting your website to your Facebook, Twitter, (Insert Social Network) profile and vice versa. Providing “share” buttons for various social bookmarking sites will get you a ton of free links. Links to your band site is GOOD.
Music Player
Your music player should have up-to-date music that is as high quality mastered as you have. Don’t present unfinished products.
Embedded Video
Embed Videos of concerts, recording sessions, freestyles, etc. on your Bands Website. Recording massive amounts of material and sharing it on Youtube, your website, Twitter, Facebook, etc. is a good way to get a lot more traffic to your site and more fans buying music.
Concert Calender
Having a calender of your upcoming shows is vital for a successful indie hip-hop artist marketing campaign.
Slideshows/Galleries
Upload all your pictures into slideshows and galleries on your band website. Some companies offer custom editable websites that allow you to do this kind of thing quite easily.
Facebook Marketing
For Independent Hip-Hop Artists
Facebook is one of the most valuable tools for an indie hip hop artist right now. Facebook Marketing can be a huge pain in the neck. If you have time to do it yourself it can pay off big time, if you have money to invest in your campaign the better it will work for you.
Band Profile
Create a band profile and update it with as many pictures, videos and songs that you can. Suggest to as many friends as you have and get the ball rolling if you haven’t already. If you have a facebook band profile you might consider banner ads.
Banner Ads
Facebook banner ads can be targeted to city, state, interests in music, age, gender, etc. Targeting is great for upcoming concerts that need to be advertised out of town. Also this is a great way to target peoples interests in similar music. This is a great way to increase the number of fans you have on your page. More fans equals more traffic to your band site which equals more revenue from album sales. Band Placement Companies like GME can do Facebook banners as well as banners on other networks like major news sites, music sites and more.
Landing Page
Some companies will build you a custom landing page that tells people to like your page and some even have music players. These are very valuable to your online marketing campaign.
Music Player
Having a music player on your Facebook profile will give you a big boost in fan base. Combined with banner ads, social media integration with your bands website and regular posting your social media buzz will be loud.
Branding
Logo
Make sure you have a good logo designed. If you have a cheap looking logo you wont get any real respect. Have a graffiti artist or a Marketing Company design you a logo.
Social Media Networking
Create a profile on as many social bookmarking and social networking sites as you can. Post a few links to your site and forget about most of them. Take 4 or 5 more popular sites and hit them hard. Make sure you stay up-to-date on a few good social networking sites. Make sure to send your band site a lot of links. Post your name on lists all over the web that people have compiled of their favorite artists of your similar genre. For example Bad Habitat Music features a post about the Top 100 Underground Rappers.
Marketing Materials
Stickers, Flyers, Posters, which is the most bang for your buck.
Handbills (Flyers) have been used in hip-hop marketing forever. But how well do they really work? These can be used in excess and if not implemented properly can be a big waste, financially and environmentally. They create a lot of garbage and are outlawed in some counties because of litter problems. Flyers are best used by handing them out at shows, outside of shows, placing them on cars, tables, etc at venues which have shows of a similar genre to your style of underground hip-hop. Hand out a lot of Flyers where other hip-hop fans gather. Don’t just go down the street and hand them all out outside of a corner store. I have found the most success in sticker marketing. Stickers last a lot longer than flyers and they build up more long term buzz than handbills. Flyers are great for promoting shows, but stickers are king for overall promotion.
Merchandise like T-Shirts and Hats can go a long way. Getting fitted hats (New Era 59Fifty’s) with your logo on them will be a big hit among hip-hop fans. Getting a good deal on the production of the product is important. The markup on the gear can’t be too high. If the shirt costs you $5 to make sell it for $10 not $20+ you will sell more and make more with a lower price point on your merchandise. T-Shirts that have cool graphics, logo, etc are important also. This goes back to making sure you have a catchy logo that is something your fan base would be comfortable putting on their body for everyone to see.
Online Advertising Agency Total Market Exposure offers the above services at great prices for independent hip hop artists. Look to spend anywhere from $500 to $5000 on a successful campaign. It depends on how aggressive you want to be in your marketing campaign. Check out some links below about similar topics on Bad Habitat Music, home of the worlds illest Underground Hip Hop group.

About Brother Ali
Ali Newman (born Jason Newman in 1977), better known by the stage name Brother Ali, is an American hip hop artist signed to Rhymesayers Entertainment.
Ali’s first release was a cassette only demo tape called “Rites of Passage.” Ali handled all of the production, recording and arranging of the project himself. That tape is what cemented his relationship with local Independent record label hip hop label Rhymesayers Entertainment. “Rites of Passage” was released in 2000 and was sold almost exclusively at shows. Nutsie.com’s 100 Greatest Alternative Hip-Hop Artists
Nutsie features this full list of 100 Great Alternative Hip-Hop Artists. I say “great” not “greatest” because I dont think they are including the full hip-hop gambit. I would have included a number of other artists. Bad Habitat Music and Surreal Music have posted a number of lists of the best underground rappers, many of which are spurred by youtube videos posted by someone I don’t know. Usually we just review their list and suggest improvements or other contenders for the lists. These posts include videos of some of top underground hip hop artists best songs.
Like Nutsie we feature Amazon and CD Universe as affiliates on our site. They have really good deals on really good independent underground hip hop artists and we support indie music. We hope you support independent hip hop as well. Science has proven that indie music is better than big label music.

My list would have included a little bit more West Coast Rappers from the 90’s and a few more modern underground hip-hop artists including more progressive rappers. This list is also misleading. It says Best 100 Hip-Hop Artists but it doesn’t include any Graffiti Artists, Dancers, Beatboxers, or DJ’s. It doesn’t even have DJ Quik who is definitely deserving of this list.
Successful Underground Rappers
I recently stumbled upon a question some ignorant fool posted about hip-hop. He stated stated that if a rapper does not blow up in the mainstream that “something is wrong” and that underground rappers must not want “success” in the industry. To this simple minded drone “artists” like Lil Wayne and Drake are lyricists and have big fan bases because they are really good musically. Their success having nothing to do with their style of music. Which in my circle, represents something more along the lines of “the systematic destruction of the black community” (BET, Mainstream Hip-Hop, Materialism, Drake, Lil Wayne, all the same thing). So read what this guy has to say about successful underground rappers and post your comments below.
Do “underground” rappers not want success?
I see alot of people on here saying how Wayne or Drake are horrible rappers and that you only listen to this underground rapper or that. Just because someone has a huge fanbase and their music gets played on the radio doesn’t mean they aren’t good rappers lyrically. It’s okay to be underground when you first start putting out mixtapes but if

Hip-Hop Love Stories
The article by Nathaniel Long is very intricate and eloquent. The love stories within in the music are described in detail from the lyrics to the beats, the innuendo and intrigue of love and hip-hop. He writes about hip-hop as a scholar and a member of the community. This is one of the finest essays I have ever read about hip-hop. We honor it by syndicating it on our site. Please visit the authors link if you learn more about hip-hop linguistics. Artists such as Talib Kweli, Common and Dead Prez are mentioned for their rolls in contributing to the classier end of romantic hip-hop.
Hip-Hop Love Stories and the Construction of Socially Acceptable Urban Identities

The Truth About The Hurricane Katrina Disaster
The United States constitution says that every citizen has the right to carry a gun for self defense. However, five years ago in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina people were having their guns taken from them and collected by law enforcement. Alex Jones says that much of the looting that occurred in New Orleans in the immediate days after Hurricane Katrina hit land was done by police and other civil officers.
He has a really good point. This is a serious issue.
Hip-Hop Record Labels
Hip-Hop Record Labels
Hip Hop Record Labels, The Job The Fame
The following is an excerpt from an article talking about hip hop record labels and artist relationships. Also featured below is a video of a fast rapping underground artist. Worth checking out for sure, its pretty dope. As usual we appreciate you visiting and we hope you find it interesting. Peace.
by: Brent Wilson
Hip hop record labels are the companies that sponsor and produce the music that you love to hear. Hip hop is one of the hottest types of music on the market today and that is due at least in part to the advertisement and promotion of these artists by their hip hop record labels. So, we can thank them for bringing the artists we love to the forefront in music, but that is not all that they do. In fact, the hip hop record labels play a large part in the production of the music itself.

Top Underground Hip Hop Blogs
There are a lot of Underground Hip Hop sites on the web that feature forums, videos, album reviews and a whole lot more. While we are proud to be one of these excellent sources of information on the underground hip hop music scene, art and culture, we feel that it is important that you have all of the most up-to-date information on current events and new underground hip hop music.
World of Underground Hip Hop
This, budding hip hop blog has quickly risen in the ranks and become one of the more popular underground hip hop blogs on the web. Featuring appearances from many underground hip hop well-known’s such as MF DOOM the blog isn’t as ground breaking as some other sites but it has a wide variety of new underground hip hop music to choose from. World of Underground Hip Hop (WUHH?) is one underground hip hop blog that I check pretty frequently to stay up on current events.
They do present some very far out music though. If you would like to see what I’m talking about check out “Gazzillion Ear” (Babe Rainbow Remix).
World Of Underground Hip Hop recently posted a video of one of my favorite underground hip hop artists… The Grouch

How To Find Hip Hop Samples
How To Find Hip-Hop Samples
Much of today’s commercial, and underground, Hip Hop is inspired or created from early Jazz and Soul. James Brown, Lee Dorsey and Kool and The Gang have all been sampled by Hip Hop legends such as Nas, Jay-Z, Wu Tang and Run DMC.
The most famous sample is a drum loop sampled from a track by The Winstons called Amen Brother. The sample is so famous it’s now more commonly known as the Amen Break. This
