Dru Manchu of Bad Habitat

The primary directive force behind the organized chaos of Bad Habitat’s day to day schedule, Dru Manchu, along with Flawless, is a founding father of Bad Habitat. Taking it upon himself to keep a group of alcohol fueld, opinionative and rowdy creative souls on schedule, Dru Manchu attempts to add an aura of professionalism to this otherwise wild group… no easy task for a man who’s been know to get just as wild as his cohorts! Raised in the back of a SE Portland comic book store, Dru Manchu was nourished in his youth by a healthy dose of modern mytholgy and a love for the semantics of the English Language. After discovering hip hop and all the creativity in wordplay that came with, a young Dru Manchu dove in headfirst! Manchu began as a staple at house parties and open mics throughout the greater Portland area. After many note worthy battles (including a loss to future World Rap and Scribble Jam champion Illmaculate while the two were in highschool) he became a founding member of Portland supergroup The Surrealest, which eventually evolved into Surreal Music and Bad Habitat.

Manchu has developed an exciting, original style centering on creative punchlines and well placed multi-syllabic rhyme schemes, wrapped in intelligent lyrics and an explosive, high energy delivery. Since forming Bad Habitat with fellow Surrealest member Flawless, Manchu has become a well respected and highly demanded emcee in the Northwest Hip Hop scene. Responsible for much of the thematic elements of Bad Habitat’s music, Dru Manchu is deliberate and organized, writing and rewriting verses until the rhymes fit like a complex puzzle. An artistic soul in the body of a mathematition, Manchu is always thinking a few steps ahead, running the numbers and waiting for the best opportunities to put plans into motion.
