Yeah, awsome list if Hip Hop started around 2003. You are missing all the people that were around before that. I remember names like Vitamin D, Black Anger, Ozrock, Jace, DJ B Mello, DJ Kamikazee, Sinsemilla, 22nd Precinct, Source Of Labor, Ghetto Children, Narcotik, Prose And Concepts, Blind Council, J Boogie, yadda yadda.. Hip Hop aint the same since it lost it’s soul though..

Great article. That “example” artist listed below is spot on Gucci Mane, right down to the 350k in sales. The label probably forced him to do that dumb Usher collaboration spotlight instead of a song that worked for him. Doomed his album, that plus getting arrested again.

The question I have is that while everyone complains about how the labels just capitalize on existing buzz instead of doing A&R work, how does an independent artist make that breakthrough without the label? I’ve rarely ever seen it done, and most of the time were complete flukes a la Ying Yang Twins.

It seems like the labels still control the means of distribution and the major media avenues. I think most artists fully understand that the labels are necessary for them to get to the top.

now I’m not gonna lie Eminem is good but I’m just curious as to why everyone talks crap about him if your a fan you shouldn’t complain or say oh it doesn’t have this or its missing this its his music not yours if you want some like it make it yourself then you cant complain about something. Leave the guy alone he just got back into this (this album is really good why you kids be complaining?) but hey just trolls looking to get their two cents in.

I think this is a great album…n im glad eminem got his stuff together….me n my boyfriend have been together for about 3 yrs now and hes been throught alot n almost every song he ever wrote took us through some kind of situation we were in…and now he just recently got out of jail for nothing important lol its was stupid ..but hes in foster care …and yes the put 17 yr old ppl in foster care for violating probation but the same time eminem recovered from drugs n made a positive figure out of himself …..my bf has changed alot n looks at things in a different way so eminem is still riding with us lol no matter how long he is around or not around his music still holds the same addrenaline rush as if i just herd it….so thank u eminem for all yer hard work n i hope that ur life is better now n tell ur daughter hay …n Peace love n chicken greeese lol jp but really thank u

My opinion is this album is good but not great. Relapse was an amazing album start to finish. This one is okay. It is growing on me but does not have as catchy beats as relapse. It has some wild rapping in it and I like Cold Wind and Love the way you lie. It is definitely a solid album. I just personally like relapse better.

Relapse had terrible lyrics but amazing beats. (for the most part)
Recovery has amazing lyrics but terrible beats. (for the most part)
You could compare Relapse to Rocky III when Rocky just doesn’t have the “Eye of the tiger” anymore. Eminem tried to bring out the Slim Shady again but… just couldnt happen. Slim Shady’s tired. And Mr. Mathers knew it was Eminem that had something to say. Recovery delivers Eminem. Just… without the clever beats.
