This show is going to be crazy. I have been working on using Facebook ads to promote the show. And while it has been somewhat expensive I believe that I am able to reach more people who would like to go to the show than with more traditional methods like putting flyers on cars or putting up posters around town.

Check out all the different versions of the flyer I did recently.

Beats by Dre – Dr Dre Studio Headphones

Dr Dre’s line of Studio Headphones are quite possibly the dopest looking studio headphones on the market today. But how does the quality match up with the aesthetics?

Beats by Dre Reviews

Cnet Reviews gave the Studio Headphones 3.5 stars out of 5 which isn’t bad at all. Customers who have purchased Beats By Dre headphones from Amazon have rated 4 out of 5 stars overall with Sound Quality, Ease of Use and the Wow Factor being the highest rated attributes. Apple also reviewed Beats by Dre studio headphones and rated them 4 out 5. Most of the Beats by Dre reviews that I have found have been very good. Flud Watches

These Turntable Watches are pretty sick but Flud Watches actually have quite a few designs which are all really tight in my opinion. I’m gonna be putting them on blast here for a while until I cover all of the different designs of theirs that I like. There is another old school hip hop watch design that I really like from Flud Watches. It features a boombox with a digital display in a couple different colors. I just ordered my first Flud Watch but I will probably be ordering a few more sooner than later. Some have referred to the turntable as the Flud DJ Watch. They are not wrong in calling it that. I believe that all Hip Hop DJ’s should have one like this. It is not a Flud Digi Watch but there is just something about the hands of the watch going around on a turntable that makes me wanna scr-scr-scratch it.

Don’t scratch your Flud Watch.

Although less popular in Underground Hip Hop, jewelry is kind of a big deal to a lot of hip hop heads. No other piece is as iconic as the turntable watch from FLuD. Dudes make some of the sickets hip hop style watches I have ever seen. And when you can get them at discount its even better. Stay tuned for more info on FLuD watches and where to get wholesale deals on urban/hip hop gear.

Battle of bands is a contest in which many bands, usually rock/guitar bands but often from a range of different styles, compete for the title of “best band”. Acid Reflex – Hip-Hop Protest Anthem

paris hard truth soldiersParis Bio

If you’re familiar with underground hip-hop, especially on the more political side, I’m sure you’re familiar with Paris. If you’re not familiar with him, he’s released six solo albums, a collaborative effort with Public Enemy, Rebirth of a Nation, and a very well received group album that featured Public Enemy, NWA’s MC Ren, and more. Back to his own game, FTD brings us his sixth solo album, Acid Reflux, over a month before it hits stores. With the implications of the upcoming presidential election, I’m eager to see what the writer of tracks like “Bush Killa” has to say about the current political situation. If you enjoy alternative or underground hip hop, give this a shot.

Oscar Jackson, Jr. (born October 29, 1967), better known as Paris, is an American Hip Hop artist from San Francisco, California known for his militantly confrontational rapping, and especially the controversial tracks “Bush Killa” and “What Would You Do?”.

Talib Kweli – AZ Imigration Protest Song

Talib Kweli – Papers Please

Talib Kweli releases a new song protesting Arizona’s strict new immigration law. Talib Kweli’s new song, “Papers Please”, addresses the controversy over Arizona’s immigration laws.

Even though Talib Kweli just released a new Reflection Eternal album with Hi-Tek this week, he’s still got new music to share with the world.

Take a listen and be reminded of what hip-hop is like when people are just rhyming about chains and whips (hello slavery!), b*****s and hoes, plastic dolls, how much money they want us to think they have, and how whack the next dude is.

talib kweli papers pleaseTalib Kweli Protests Arizona Immigration Law

Controversial new immigration laws in Arizona have inspired a series of hip-hop activists to release songs in protest of the laws. Most recently the Brooklyn emcee Talib Kweli with “Papers Please”. Old hip hop heads remember the early days of hip-hop as a period of political consciousness, an era that has given way to mind numbing materialism, stories of the lives of a gangsters, pop rap and club “bangers”. I hope Kweli brings some light to the tense situation in Arizona. If

Talib Kweli – Papers Please

It’s not as simple as a typical protest song says Kweli. “Papers Please” is proof that the socially consciousness meem of hip-hop continues to this day. In fact, the protests of the law have parallels in the history of hip-hop.

The rap group Public Enemy released the song “When I go to Arizona” in 1991. At that time, the state has been at the center of another debate. The song, which is part social commentary, part threat, captured the collective will behind a Arizona boycott launched in early 1990 to oppose the State of Arizona who refused to allow a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Public Enemy’s Chuck D called for another boycott of the state after the immigration law passed.

Kweli, who had two tours in the state in the spring, said his fans on asked him on Twitter to stand aside and honor the boycott. Other Arizona area fans begged him to come.

He chose to keep the dates, but wrote the protest song called Arizona law, “the new Jim Crow” and came in contact with immigration activists in the state.

talib kweli papers please protest song

“I grew up with my mother telling me . . . you are never supposed to leave your house without ID,” Kweli said in an interview on Friday. “This is something I’d grown up used to as a young black person. I’ve been stopped and been detained.”
His song “Papers Please” is at least the third hip-hop artist targeting Arizona. Chuck D released “Tear down the wall” and a song by Toki Wright, called “The Time I Get to Arizona in 2010″ asks what an illegal immigrant looks like.

“Our country is in crisis,” Kweli said. “It has always been whether we have a black president or not. I’ve grown up as the type of artist that I’ve always felt responsible to uplift the people.”

Fat Cats, Bigga Fish

This is an old school classic hit from The Coup called Fat Cats, Bigga Fish. I have been rocking The Coup albums for a minute and Boots Riley is hands down one of the dopest revolutionary emcees ever. Pam is a dope DJ and has been cuttin up tracks for decades. I am stoked to be seeing both of them in Portland this year. Last time Boots was in town he performed an acoustic set with a guitarist from Tom Morrelo’s band The Nightwatchman. That was a dope show but I expect this one to be way doper with the full beats and everything. Props to Boots and Pam, The Coup are rocking Portland tonight.
